Can I Operate a Business Under More than One Name?
I’m often asked whether you can operate your business under more than one name in Connecticut. You can, it’s called ‘doing business as’ or trade name. In Connecticut, this can be achieved by locally filing a Doing Business As Registration Form. In contrast, in New York, you have to file with the state secretary an Authority to do Business Form. DBAs are useful because they can further brand your name in business in sections or divisions of it. It’s also useful in preventing competitors from operating businesses with names that are similar or close to the business names in which you operate.
