What are Debt Collectors?
Many of my clients receive calls from third parties in connection with a credit card debt or another debt that they were unable to pay. They often ask me, who are these parties and should I speak with them? Often these parties are third party debt collectors and they’re subject to specific federal laws including called the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act. This act prescribes certain activities that they may or may not engage in. Oftentimes we find that these debt collectors violate the law and violate your rights. Debt collectors in Connecticut are specifically required to be registered with the state and they are oftentimes do this activity throughout the country utilizing call centers that make multiple calls to you per day.
